WANDERING BEAR, a bronze sculpture from Moses’s North American Animals series, represents the unchanging, eternal essence of all bears and evokes the magical feeling of encountering an animal in the wilderness.

Noticed along the trail, Wandering Bear’s welcoming stance and profound shape invite interaction while offering an opportunity to consider what it means for humans and animals to coexist in shared or adjacent habitats.
Part of a Sculpture Series
Ellen Moses’s sculpture series, North American Animals, draws inspiration from fleeting encounters with wildlife in the American Midwest and West. As Ortenstone visitors walk the trail, they will encounter the Wandering Bear nestled in the quiet woods, welcoming them to rest and reflect on a park bench.
Why It Matters Locally
Ellen Moses is an artist based in Detroit Lakes, MN. Born in Moorhead and raised in Fargo, North Dakota, Ellen started working in ceramics while studying photography at the Rhode Island School of Design. After working in the photographic industry at Kelton Labs and the Leibovitz Studio in New York, Ellen made ceramics the focus of her artistic practice. She moved back to the Midwest to establish a studio and exhibition space in Detroit Lakes.
Moses has a scaled limited edition (10) of BEAR available for purchase on her website. Each sculpture is numbered and signed and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
To celebrate Wandering Bear, Art Project 605 and EM Ceramics will donate 50% of the proceeds from the limited edition BEAR to Ortenstone Gardens & Sculpture Park.

Ellen Moses
Ellen Moses is an artist based in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Ellen’s artistic practice spans sculpture, installations, tiles, and objects for home and garden. Her hand-built sculptures are slip-cast from unique molds and glazed in her custom palette of nature-inspired colors.
