From One Seed
to 7,000 Blooms

Ortenstone Gardens burst into color this summer thanks to the helping hands of 38 volunteers who planted 11 varieties and colors of more than 7,000 zinnias across the grounds this spring.

From one seed to 7,000 blooms, the story of Ortenstone Gardens is written by all of us — be part of what we are growing to be!

A seed of an idea

What started as a seed of an idea is now blooming!

At Ortenstone Gardens & Sculpture Park, community involvement is at the heart of everything we do. The gardens are not just a destination to experience art and nature—they are a gathering place where people come together to learn, celebrate, and grow.

A joyful burst of color

Ortenstone Gardens burst into color this summer thanks to the gracious helping hands of volunteers who planted more than 7,000 zinnias across the grounds this spring. What began as tiny seedlings has grown into a sweeping sea of blooms, filling the garden with vibrant shades of pink, orange, yellow, and red.

All summer long, the zinnia garden has been a joyful place to wander, and it quickly became a favorite backdrop for wedding photos, senior portraits, and family memories — a living reminder of how beauty brings people together.

More than flowers
Zinnias are more than just flowers; they’re symbols of endurance, friendship, and joy. Their long-lasting blossoms reflect the spirit of Ortenstone Gardens itself — a place rooted in community, creativity, and connection.
Be part of the story
As we look to the seasons ahead, there will be many opportunities to help shape the beauty of Ortenstone Gardens & Sculpture Park. From volunteering at future plantings, to sponsoring a bed of blooms, to simply coming out to enjoy the gardens, everyone is welcome to be part of the story. Just as the zinnias flourished this year, Ortenstone Gardens continues to grow brighter with every hand and heart that joins in.

Enjoy the Zinnia Zen

The zinnia garden at Ortenstone is a living canvas of color and calm, where thousands of blooms sway gently in the breeze, creating a natural rhythm that harmonizes beautifully with the soulful sound of the cello, French horn, piano, and other stringed instruments. This garden is more than a display of flowers—it’s an invitation to pause, breathe deeply, and be fully present in the moment. Each vibrant petal seems to echo the music, reminding us that beauty, serenity, and joy can be found in the simplest of places when we take the time to notice.
